Weak and strong acids/bases

Postby ng1D » Thu Jan 16, 2020 8:14 pm

What is the difference between calculating weak acids or bases and strong acids or bases?

Strong acids and strong bases completely dissociate to form ions in solution but weak acids and bases don't completely ionize therefore the reaction is reversible.

Regarding calculations, you usually have to use an ICE table for weak acids and weak bases since they do not dissociate completely. An ICE table is not needed when doing calculations for strong acids and strong bases.
