Changes in K and Q

Postby Leslie Almaraz 4G » Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:56 pm

I'm still a little confused about K and Q. Does change temperature change K or Q? Does a change in concentration change Q?

K changes in terms of temperature but not by increasing/decreasing the concentration of your products or reactants. Q just tells you what direction you reaction is moving (forward/reverse) as it approaches equilibrium or K.

Since the equilibrium constant is dependent on temperature, changing temperature will change K. A change in the equilibrium concentrations will arise the reaction quotient, Q, until the system reaches K again.
