Clarification on these statements

Postby 205192823 » Sun Jan 19, 2020 11:29 pm

What is the difference between saying "equilibrium is shifted to the right/left" versus when a reaction "lies to the right/left"?

Both of those statements mean the same. If to maintain equilibrium, the reaction will proceeds to the right, that means more products will be formed which can also be stated with equilibrium lies to the right.

shifted implies that the reaction was already at equilibrium and something changed it, and lies to the right/left just means that it is product/reactant favored
