Conjugate Seesaw

What is the conjugate seesaw? How do we use it in problem solving and calculations?

Re: Conjugate Seesaw

The conjugate seesaw basically describes how...
The stronger an acid, the weaker its conjugate base will be
The stronger a base, the weaker its conjugate acid will be

From this concept, you can derive equations such as
Kw = Ka x Kb
Kw = [H3O+][OH-]
pKw = pKa + pKb

Re: Conjugate Seesaw

The conjugate seesaw is referring to the conjugate acid and conjugate base of acid and base, the compound a base or acid turns into after donating or accepting hydrogen. A problem can give you the concentration of a conj. base or acid and some other information and ask you to use that information to solve for something else, through the ICE table or other general formulas.

Re: Conjugate Seesaw

The conjugate seesaw simply states that the stronger the acid, the weaker its conjugate base and the stronger a base, the weaker its conjugate acid.
