Chemical equation

Postby Andrea_Torres » Thu Jan 23, 2020 6:40 pm

How are we supposed to make the chemical equation on our own when solving for concentration and down ice tables?

The chemical equations will be given to us.

Some chemical equations will be given to us, but certain ones, like combustion, you should have memorized in order to make a chemical equation given the combustible material.

I think knowing the typical weak acid/weak base equilibrium equations are useful. As long as you know that HA + H20 => A- + H3O+ and A- + H2O => HA + OH- then you should be able to write the equations for a weak acid weak base problem.

The chemical equations are usually given to you, but you should definitely know equations between acids and their conjugate bases and bases and their conjugate acids.

In those instances in which you are not given a chemical equation, you need to use the context clues to generate an equation. Usually you will have to come up with the equations yourself only for Acid-Base equilibrium problems, in which the acid or base and water are almost always the reactants and their conjugate acid/conjugate base and hydronium/hydroxide are almost always the products.
