HNO2(aq) + H2O(l) -> H3O+(aq) + NO2-(aq)

In the example from Fri 1/17's lecture, the questions stated that the solution had KNO2(aq) but it is not directly used. Instead, the 0.150M of KNO2 were assigned to NO2-. Why is that? What is their relationship?

KNO2 is the salt in the reaction, and as a salt it dissolves into K+ and NO2-. That's why 0.15M KNO2 is assigned to NO2- because KNO2 dissolves into NO2-.

I think of it like I do with spectator ion ( ions like Na+, K+, Ca2+ dissociate so in making ICE table, etc, we don't take them into account in terms of calculations
