Units

Postby Eileen Quach Dis 2A » Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:18 pm

I was wondering why when we calculate partial pressure the answer could be either in bars or moles per liter. Is there any unit out of the two that is preferred?

I think bars and atm is preferred!

I believe for pressure bars are what we use (they are very similar to atm).

I have heard Dr. Lavelle say we will use either bars or atm since they do not vary significantly in their value.

I think we can figure out which unit to use from the units of the provided information (or maybe that's just for R when using the ideal gas law).

Because 1 bar is approximately equal to 1 atm we use both and don't necessarily prefer one over the other. However, I do believe the SI unit is bar

1 bar is very close to 1 atm so either will work. In lecture, Lavelle mentioned we will be using atm mostly.

I think for this course, we'll mostly use atm as units for pressure, but since 1 bar is approximately equal to 1 atm, we'll use bar as well.

I think the course will focus on using atm and bars for the most part! :))

Usually the units preferred are given in the question or you can deduce the best units from the units given! Sometimes on tests as well Dr. Lavelle will specify which units to use in answer.

Bar is the SI unit for the gas pressure and 1 bar is very close to 1 atm so we can use either of them, when the gas is presented in mols per liter it is showing its concentration and can be converted to pressure through ideal gas law.

I would honestly look at what units are used in the problem and use those for my work!

Dr. Lavelle said we will be using bars/atm. I believe bars is preferred but atm is a very similar value

Bars and atm are very close. But bars is officially the SI unit.

I think bars is the official SI unit but we will use atm too

I think we will either use bars or atm, since they are similar in value, but I think the units would just depend on the problem.

The preferred unit will be atm! You should not give an answer in moles per liter as that would be the unit for concentration rather than pressure. You can easily convert between the two as Dr. Lavelle taught in lecture.

I think either bars or atm would work since they are similar. Most likely tho, Lavelle would tell us regarding the specific problem.

i don't think there is a preference as long as your value is correct. but usually we use atm or bars out of convenience.

bars and atm, so make sure you have the right constant (:

I believe bars and atm are very similar, so it would probably just depend on the problem and the units given.

For this class, I think we will most likely be using atm and bars.
