Kc calc with Cubic Equations

Postby Ashley Lopez 3J » Sun Jan 10, 2021 12:19 pm

Are all the cases of cubic equations going to have small values of x where we have to approximate? If not, what is a measurement of knowing when the x is too small and we need to approximate?

If the K value is less than 10^-4, that means the reactants are strongly favored and x will not significantly change the concentration of the reactants, so the approximation will work. I believe for this class most cubic equations will have small K values where the approximation can be applied, but I am not completely sure.

Hope this helps!
