Lecture Question

Postby Emily_Stenzler_2H » Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:05 pm

In lecture today (1/13) what did Dr. lavelle mean when he said CH3COOH was acting as a base (22:36)? I thought anything with -COOH was a weak acid.

I was honestly confused by that too because he then goes on by saying that the equilibrium constant for this reaction is Ka because we have a weak acid in our reaction.

I'm pretty sure he misspoke. That compound is a weak acid.

He said later on that it was a weak acid so I think it was just a mistake

Rewatched the lecture and can confirm that Dr. Labelle accidentally misspoke.

I was also confused on this, but it is a weak acid

CH3COOH should be an acid.

CH3COOH is an acid and CH3COO- is its conjugate base.

Oops! I did misspeak.

Right next to CH3COOH(aq) is written WEAK ACID.

Definitely a weak acid. :-)

Most unusual for me. I need to rest up a bit this weekend. :-)
