Salts

Postby Emily_Stenzler_2H » Wed Jan 13, 2021 8:07 pm

I think I missed the discussion last quarter when Dr. Lavelle explained how we know something is a salt...can someone please explain? Is it anything with Na? Will Na always be acting as an acid when it dissociates from a compound?

salts are a product of a neutralization reaction between a strong base and a strong acid and it does not always need to involve sodium.

A salt is a product of an acid-base reaction that consists of a cation and an anion. Examples: NaCl, CuCl2

A salt is just a neutral compound made from cations and anions.

Salts don't have to have Na (but they could). It's just a term used to describe the product of an acid-base reaction!

Salt was used as an example to show its neutrality since it is composed of cations and anions.
