What is a simple definition of percent ionization?

% ionization = [H3O+]eq / [HA]initial x 100%

To add on to the above response, percent ionization is just how much of the acid dissociates into H3O+.

Percent ionization is just asking you to find out how much of the acid actually disassociated into H3O+. We probably would only do this for weaker acids, since strong acids completely disassociate.

Hi! Percent ionization just refers to how much of the weak acid actually ionized in solution. The formula for this would be (conj base concentration/initial acid concentration) * 100%. One thing to note is that when the problem has acids, it's usually referred to as percent ionization, but when the problem has bases, it's usually referred to as percent protonation. Percent ionization is just the ratio of concentration of H+ ions ionized to the initial concentration of the acid.
Percent ionization=[H+]/[HA]*100%.

Just to clarify, if the percent ionization is less than 5% of the initial concentration, it is okay to approximate x, correct?
