Thermodynamic Stability

Postby Nivi Ahlawat 3I » Wed Nov 18, 2015 9:05 pm

Hi,

What does it mean to be thermodynamically more stable? My question refers to part c of 11.45, which asks if Cl2 or F2 is more stable, based on their concentrations at 1000K.

Thank you!

This refers to which diatomic halogen is less likely to disocciate (split into 2Cl or 2F). Since the equilibrium constant of the disocciation is less for Cl2, this is more stable.
