balanced reactions

Postby Taylor Pio 3H » Sun Nov 29, 2015 11:28 pm

Should we assume that questions and reactions given in questions are balanced?

I ask because there was a question on quiz three (number 7 on my quiz) in which the given reaction was not balanced. My TA later explained to me that this was because an enzyme was left out of the given equation.
Should we always try to balance equations, or should we assume long an complicated given ones are balanced.

As far as I know whenever you are given a chemical equation you should always make sure that products and reactants are balanced since if you don't then calculations for equlibrium constant and such will be off.

The first thing you should always do in a problem is check if the equation is balanced.
