Achieve Week 1 Q3

Postby Kassandra Javier 2D » Sun Jan 16, 2022 8:59 pm

For this question, in the ICE table would the change for HI be 2x since the stoichiometric coefficient is 2?

At a certain temperature, the equilibrium constant, Kc, for this reaction is 53.3.

H2(g)+I2(g)↽−−⇀2HI(g)Kc=53.3

At this temperature, 0.700 mol H2 and 0.700 mol I2 were placed in a 1.00 L container to react. What concentration of HI is present at equilibrium?

Yes, the change value for HI in Q3 would be +2x. This is because in the reaction, HI has a coefficient of 2. It is also a positive value because the initial value is 0 and increases once the reaction takes place. Hope this helps!

Yes, it would be 2x! It's positive since it's gaining / product is formed, and it's 2 exactly for the reason you said.

For any reaction, is the change row of the ICE table always the coefficient of the given species divided by the coefficient of the species whose concentration we know is being changed by certain molarity?

Yes, the change would be +2x because HI’s coefficient is 2 and the initial is zero.

Hey! You're exactly right. The other replies do a great job of explaining why. :)

You're right, the change in concentration would be +2x for this problem. Don't forget when you square the concentration in your calculations that the square applies to the coefficient as well!

Yes, because it has the coefficient of 2.

I believe the coefficient of the molecule/atom in the balanced equation should be in front of the variable when doing ICE calculations.

Yes, it would be 2x because the coefficient of [HI] is 2.

Hi! Yes, it would be 2x, because the coefficients of the change variable is dependent on the coefficients of the reactants and products. Since the coefficient of HI in this equation is 2, it would be 2x.

Hi! Yes, the coefficient here should be 2x. Whenever I approach any question that deals with a given equation, I try to make sure that the equation is balanced(it already is in this case). Then, the change in concentration usually would be followed by the same coefficient as what you have in the balanced equation.

Yup you're all set! Don't forget to take the root of both sides when you solve (mostly because that's something I forgot...)!

Yes! It would be +2X when you are calculating because the coefficient is 2

Yes, the coefficient will give you the number you will need to put before x.

Hi! Yes, you are correct that the change in the ICE table would be +2x as the coefficient is 2! Hope this helps!

From what I understand, yes because the coefficient is 2.
