Partial Pressures

Postby Jonathan Liu 2I » Wed Jan 19, 2022 6:28 pm

When we calculate the equilibrium partial pressures, do we have to convert them to atm before calculations or can we keep it as bar

I don't think you need to convert between bar and atm because the difference is so small. If you do need to convert however, I would do it before any calculations.

I think that 1 atm is about 1 bar for the conversion

From my understanding, we need to keep all of the units the same in a question. The questions always give the same unit.
There is no need to convert them.
1 atm = 1.013 bar
The difference is so small.

Because the conversions are essentially the same, I don't think its necessary to show work for this conversion, however, it would be very helpful to remain in the same units throughout the problem :)
