Textbook 5.35

For this question, we are asked to calculate the equilibrium constant for the decomposition of compound A into compounds B and C. The solution is the following:

2A (g) <--> B (g) + 2C (g)

Could someone please explain how to approach this question as I am confused as to how to balance the equation with only the information provided by the graph.

So on the graph you have to choose the partial pressure for each where their line is not going up nor down but remaining at one single partial pressure. This means that at those specific points (where the lines are horizontal) the reaction has reached equilibrium. You plug those numbers in the equilibrium equation and then you solve. Also, since for the y-axis measures the partial pressures in kpa you need to first convert the units to atm before solving.
