pH, pOH, pKw

Postby Amanda Vanner 3B » Mon Jan 24, 2022 3:48 pm

Other than being used to assist in calculating pH, what other instances do we use pOH and pKw, or is that it? Or will a question specify when else they should be used? I understand what each value means and how it is relative to pH, I'm just unsure of if we use the values outside of calculating the pH.

They can be used to find one another and the concentrations of H+ and OH- ions, but other than that I don't think they would used be very much. I think all the terms of pH, pOH, pKw, pKa, pKb, Ka, and Kb are all only used in the context of one another. Hope this helps!

I believe that pOH is usually associated with using or solving for Kb and pH is used with Ka, but other than that I believe they are just used to calculate one another.
