Homework 5J.3

Postby maliamichelsen_3a » Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:17 pm

I was having some trouble when trying to work through 5J.3 in the achieve textbook. Specifically, I was looking for some clarification on parts C, D, and G. Any help is appreciated :) Screenshot of the question is attached for reference.

Hi,
For part c, if H2O is removed, the equilibrium shifts towards the products because Le Chatelier's principle says that the shift will occur to reduce the effects of the change. In this case, more product needs to be formed since some was just removed. If more products are formed, the amount of NO would increase.
Part d is similar just instead of a product being removed, a reactant is removed so the equilibrium would shift to produce more reactants so the amount of NH3 would increase.
For part g, you are adding reactant so the equilibrium will shift to use up that reactant and form more products. Since O2 is also a reactant, the amount of O2 would decrease.
I hope that helps!
