Focus 5 Question

Postby 805737147 » Sat Jan 28, 2023 11:47 am

For 5.39 in the focus problems, how do you get the correct concentrations for 2NO2 and N204? I noticed that the K in the table is given for the reverse reaction, so I used 1/K in my equation. However, I keep getting an x value of 0.0025, which doesn't match the answer key.

Hi, unfortunately this is one of the assigned problems with a textbook error. The Kc value given in the table is incorrect. The Kc value for the reaction N2O4 to 2 NO2 should be 6.1 x 10-3, not 6.1 x 1023. In this case, the solution manual is correct, but the textbook is incorrect. Make sure you check the solution manual errors link on the 14B website before you start working on problems to make sure that the questions you're solving have correct solutions.
