[BH+] vs [H+]

Postby Chris_Strickhouser_1A » Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:10 am

How is [BH+] different from [H+]? I know it has something to do with the amine but other than that, I do not understand.

B is usually used to denote a base so the equation is written as B + H2O -> BH+ + OH- where you get the BH+ is the conjugate acid of the base B. When writing the equation for an acid, it is typically written as HA + H2O -> H3O+ + A- or to shorten some people just write it as HA -> H+ + A-. That's where you get the H+ where that is the proton the acid is giving away.
