Textbook 5I.27

Postby 906032986 » Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:42 pm

When I try to solve for x, I keep getting 8.71 and 0.0737 when I used the quadratic equation. I tried plugging it in exactly as shown in the solutions and I get those same numbers, not 9.2 or 0.071 like it says in the solutions. I'm not sure how they got these numbers since I did the same exact calculation and got something different. Is anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?

I believe it's an error. Sometimes the textbook has the wrong answers for the problems and this problem appears to be one of them. The answer I got was x = 8.7119 and 0.073790 too. From there, my equilibrium concentrations were 0.593M, 0.926M, and 3.074M for PCl3, Cl2, and PCl5, respectively.
