reverse vs forward reaction

Postby AlexandraHernandez3E » Wed Mar 13, 2024 9:31 pm

When we say reactants are "favored" does that mean we are looking at the reverse reaction and likewise when products are "favored" we look at the forward reaction? Just need a bit of clarification thank you

Yes, I believe so.

Essentially yes. When reactants are favored, the reverse reaction is more likely to occur than the forward reaction. Similarly, if the products are favored the forward reaction is more likely to occur than the reverse reaction.

Yes that is more or less the idea! Reactants being favored means the rate that they are produced is greater than the rate that products are produced, and vice versa, and this has to do with the reverse reaction versus the forward, because the reverse reaction is the one producing the reactants.

I think reactant favored and product favored have more weight in terms of which side the equilibria lies, but I would say generally yes, that reactant favored means reverse and product favored means forward.
