what would the oxidation numbers be for each in this equation:
H2O2 -> 2H2O + O2 ?

For H2O2 the hydrogen would have an oxidation state of +1 each which means the oxygen would have a state of -1 each. For H2O the hydrogens would still have an oxidation state of +1 each but the oxygen would have a -2. The oxygen in the O2 would have a state of 0 each. Also remember to balance your equation.

For hydrogen, it will always have an oxidation number of +1. For oxygen, the reactant hydrogens would each be -1, while the oxygen in the products are 2- and 0.
