Non-equilibirum situations

In situations where a certain system is not at equilibrium, how would we go about deciding what direction it goes, proceeds to the products/reactants? Any clarification is much appreciated!

Q uses the same equation as k, so you would calculate it in the same way as the equilibrium constant. If Q turns out to be less than K, there is a higher concentration of reactants and the reaction will go forward from reactants to products. If Q is greater than K, there is a higher concentration of products than reactants and the reaction will go in reverse from products to reactants.
