Compression effect on a system

Postby Natalie LeRaybaud 1G » Sat Dec 09, 2017 8:49 pm

How does compressing a system affect the overall reaction? This includes in matters such as volume, concentration , equilibrium, etc.

Compressing a system will decrease the volume, which will increase the pressure. For equilibriums, when the pressure is increased, the equilibrium will shift towards the side with less moles of gas.

Just to expand, the equation will shift towards the side with less moles of gas in an attempt to reduce the pressure and return to equilibrium
