Can someone explain the concept of Gibbs Free Energy in chemistry?

Gibbs Free Energy tells you the maximum amount of work that can be done under a system with constant temperature and pressure.

Why is the concepts of Gibbs free energy relevant?

Gibbs free energy can help determine whether a reaction release or requires energy. I think this will be important later in the class but not much for this unit.
