ICE Tables

I'm still a bit confused when it comes to ICE tables. What are certain indicators of a problem that lets us know we'll need an ICE table to solve it?

If none of the equilibrium values are provided, use an ICE table to determine the equilibrium composition of a reaction. If one or more of the equilibrium values are provided, you can use stoichiometric ratios to determine the amount of change the initial amount of reactants or products experiences (multiply equilibrium value given by the appropriate ratio between the molecule you are trying to find and the given equilibrium values of the other molecule) then add/subtract accordingly.

If it gives the value of K and the initial concentration of either the reactants or products it will require an ice table. If you just set up an ICE table for a problem your unsure about and use the information your given to try to fill it in, you can quickly realize if it is an ICE table or not.

If it gives you the K and provides you either the initial values of molarity or moles, you will have to do the ice table so you can find the equilibrium concentration or moles. Remember to only stick with one, and convert if you have to.

You can usually tell if you have to make an ICE box because the question will specify an initial concentration of some sort ("x amount of moles was place into x amount of liters and allowed to reach equilibrium....") and then itll ask you for the equilibrium concentration.

If you're ever asked to find equilibrium concentration, your using ICE boxes.
