Will we have to know how to factor a complicated problem like this one where there is a quadratic over a quadratic for tests?

Most likely no, just because that would be very difficult and time consuming to do on a scientific calculator.

You should just only need to know how to plug values of a quadratic equation into the quadratic formula.
