What is the difference between percent protonation/deprotonation and percent ionization?

ionization is dissociation of an ionic compound into its respective ions, ie NaCl (s)--> Na+(a) + Cl-(aq)
Percent deprotonation is the % of substance that lost its proton
Percent protonation is the % of substance that gained a proton

For acids, it's known as percent deprotonation because acids give off a H+ proton, so the acid itself is loses a proton. It's also known as the percent ionization the acid goes from a neutral charge to having a negative charge, so the compound becomes ionized.

Bases have a percent protonation because bases accept a proton. Hope this helps!

Protonation describes gaining a proton (for bases), while deprotonation describes losing a proton (for acids).

sort of going off the original question, can someone briefly explain what deprotonation is again please?

The percentage deprotonation is the ratio of the concentration of dissociated [H+] ions to the concentration of initial acid [HA]. You use it to find what percentage of the weak acid has dissociated into hydronium ions.

Percent protonation/deprotonation compares the H3O+ concentration or OH- concentration with the initial concentration. Percent ionization compares the ion concentration to the initial concentration. They can be similar. It depends on the context.
