Why is it that [Ba(OH)2] = [Ba2+] ?

Hi Tony,
Since Ba(OH)2 is classified as one of the 6 strong bases, we know it fully dissociates into its ions (Ba2+ and OH-). Setting up an ICE box (see attached image), we can see that since all of the Ba(OH)2 dissociates, x = -[Ba(OH)2]. And for every one mole of Ba(OH)2 that dissociates, one mole of Ba2+ is produced. Therefore, the initial concentration of Ba(OH)2 is equal to the equilibrium concentration of Ba2+.
