What kind of anions affect the pH?

The effect of anions on pH depends on their ability to either accept or donate protons in solution. Acidic anions tend to decrease pH by donating protons, while basic or hydrolyzable anions tend to increase pH by accepting or generating hydroxide ions, respectively.

Anions will affect the pH, but can do so in different ways. They can either contribute OH- ions or affect the equilibrium of the water. Basic anions or weak bases that dissociate can definitely increase pH by adding in OH- ions to the reaction. But the acidic anions react with water and this will have an effect on the H+ ion concentration, resulting in an effect on pH.
