11.73 State whether reactants or products will be favored by an increase in the total pressure (resulting from compression) on each of the following equilibria. If there is no change, explain why that is so.

(b) H2O(g) + C(s) ↔ H2(g) + CO(g)

Since there are 2 moles on both sides, I thought that there would be no change. However the back of the book said that the reactants are favored. Can someone please explain why that is? Thank you!

You would disregard the C(s) because it's a solid. So there's 1 mole on the reactant side and 2 moles on the product side, which is why the reactant side is favored.
