Temperature and K

Postby Nehal Banik » Sat Nov 25, 2017 8:30 pm

How is the equilibrium composition affected by temperature?

A temperature change occurs when temperature is increased or decreased. This shifts chemical equilibria toward the products or reactants. In exothermic reactions, increase in temperature decreases the equilibrium constant, K, whereas, in endothermic reactions, increase in temperature increases the K value.

According to Le Chatelier's principle, the effect of temperature on equilibria involves a change in the equilibrium constant as well.
