Adding a liquid

Adding a gas only increases the pressure of a system so the equilibrium constant will not change. However, what happens if we add a liquid like water to the system? This will not change the pressure but will it increase the volume thereby changing K?
Or does adding a liquid also have no effect on K?

I believe when adding liquid to a system the K will not change because all the other components are in gas phase. The concentrations are not changing because no moles of gas is being added to to the system. If there was (aq) solutions in the system then it would have effect on the concentration.

I believe the only variable that affects K is temperature.

I believe that adding a liquid will not affect the K because it will stay the same on both the reactants and products sides.

Remember that all these equilibrium reactions are all taking place in closed systems/containers. Thus, adding any solid or liquid will not change the increase the volume of the system since the volume is a fixed value. In addition, adding any solid or liquid will not decrease the volume because with the amounts of reactants and products we are dealing with, any addition of solid or liquid will be insignificant with regards to changing the volume.

during lecture, Professor Lavelle pointed out that changing pressure does not change the Kc value, but changing the temperature is what changes the Kc value.

Once a reaction has reached equilibrium, it will stay at equilibrium as long as the reaction itself is not affected. Adding a liquid will not change the equilibrium concentrations/pressures of K value so long as the liquid does not react with the gases that have already reacted and reached equilibrium.

Only the position of equilibrium is changed if you add a liquid. The reaction shifts to ensure that the expression for K remains the same.
