Types of Chemical Reactions

As we learned, if a reaction requires heat while forming a product, then heating will favor product formation. If a reaction gives off heat while forming a product then heating will favor reactant formation. However, is it possible for a reaction to be neither exothermic nor endothermic? If it is possible, then what would heating do in regards to reactant and product formation?

All chemical reactions require energy to break bonds OR release energy when new bonds are form. It's highly unlikely that these energies will equal one another within the same reaction and "cancel out", therefore each reaction is classified as either endothermic or exothermic. I don't think we'll be given a chemical reaction on the test with delta H=0 and asked how the change in temperature will affect the equilibrium because Dr. Lavelle never mentioned it in lecture.

I believe all chemical reactions need to have some sort of energy change, so they are all classified under the categories of either endothermic or exothermic.

There are some reactions with ∆H = 0 called thermoneutral reactions, and temperature will not alter the equilibrium concentrations. However, they are rarely encountered.
