Re: pH value
As the solution becomes more acidic (has a higher concentration of H3O+), the pH value will decrease.

Re: pH value
The pH value is smaller when the solution is more acidic or when the concentration of hydrogen ions increases.

Re: pH value
The pH value is calculated by taking the -log value of the concentration of H3O+; for example, the pH of the solution that has 1.0*10^-4 M of H3O+ is 4. Keeping this in mind, you could compare two H3O+ concentrations, like 1.0*10^-2 and 1.0*10^-4. The value of the concentration of 1.0*10^-2 is greater than that of 1.0*10^-4, and you'll find that if you take the -log of both values, their pH values are 2 and 4 respectively. What this short example shows is that the more acidic solution or the higher the concentration of H3O+, the more the pH value will decrease.

Re: pH value
pH gets smaller as there is an increase in the amount of Hydronium ions. This is because it is the -log of the Hydronium ion concentration. Hope this helps!
Re: pH value
Because p = -log, it makes sense that pH would decrease when H+ concentration increases.

Re: pH value
The pH value becomes smaller when the H+ concentration increases and an acid because more acidic or a base becomes less basic.

Re: pH value
A lower pH is when there is an increase in H+ and therefore the solution is more acidic.
Re: pH value
The pH value gets smaller when there is an increase in H+ ions, which makes a solution more acidic (pH<7).

Re: pH value
Since the concentration of hydrogen ions determines how acidic the solution is, an increase in H+ ions results in a lower pH which makes the solution more acidic.

Re: pH value
When there are more H+ ions in the solution , it will become more acidic and thus the pH goes down.

The pH value will decrease as the concentration of H+ ions increases, this in turn makes the solution more acidic.

Re: pH value
Hi Paloma, the pH value becomes smaller as the concentration of H+ (or H3O+) increases. This is because in order to find pH, we must use the -log[H+], so smaller pH values essentially mean larger [H+] values, which corresponds to more acidic solutions. Hope this helps!

Re: pH value
Hi!
Some examples of when pH becomes smaller is when H+ concentration increases, the reaction becomes more acidic, OH- concentration decreases.
Since pH = -log (H+), an increase in H+ concentration will result in a lower pH. When calculating pOH, a decrease in OH- concentration will result in a higher pOH, which results in a lower pH because 14-pOH = pH.
I hope this helps!

Re: pH value
A smaller pH value means a higher presence of hydrogen ions, thus a more acidic solution.

Re: pH value
A solutions pH value becomes smaller as the solution becomes acidic, meaning more H3O+ are forming. This means for example, in terms of adding a weak acid/base that is unknown, if the resulting solution has a lower pH than before, the substance was a weak acid as it dissociated into H3O+ and its ocnjugate base, lowering the pH of the solution, making it more acidic with the higher presence of H3O+.

Re: pH value
pH gets smaller as the pka gets smaller. This is because the acid is stronger. Stronger acids have lower pH

Re: pH value
The pH value gets smaller when the solution becomes more acidic, meaning that the concentration in H+ ions becomes greater than the concentration of OH- ions. Also, the pH is smaller when the pKa is smaller too.

Re: pH value
pH corresponds to the concentration of hydrogen ions. For example the more the hydrogen ions (acidity) increases the pH will decreases.

Re: pH value
As the solution becomes more acidic, the pH decreases. When the solution becomes more basic, the pH increases. When the pH is lower than 7 it is acidic and when it is greater than 7 it is basic.
Re: pH value
when pH becomes smaller it means that the solution is becoming more acidic. The more H3O+ in the solution, the more acidic it is.

pH will decrease in value as the solution becomes more acidic, thus there is an increase in the number of hydrogen ions in a solution.

Re: pH value
As more hydronium ions are introduced, the solution will become more acidic, leading to the pH dropping to a number smaller than 7.
