Textbook Problem 5I #29
Hi everyone! I'm a bit confused on how to set up the ICE table for this problem:
Should I say that the change for 2HCl is -x or -2x? I was a bit confused since the stoichiometric coefficient is 2, but I haven't seen a problem where we had to -2x from the known initial concentration.-

Hello!
You can set the change in partial pressure of HCl as either -x or -2x, as long as you make sure that the change in H2 and Cl2 partial pressures are the positive half value of that (e.g if you use -x for HCl, then use +0.5x for H2 and Cl2).
Even though you can use either -2x or -x, it would make it easier mathematically to use -2x as the change in H2 and Cl2 partial pressures would then just be +x, allowing you to deal with fewer decimals,

Yes you're right, the change for HCl would be -2X and it would be +X for H2 and Cl2.
