Textbook 5J.5 part d

Postby Amanda Nguyen dis 2E » Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:56 pm

State whether reactants or products will be favored by an increase in the total pressure (resulting from compression) on each of the following equilibria. If there is no change, explain why that is so.

d) 2HD(g) + H2(g) --> D2(g)

The answer key says that there should be no change, but shouldn't this reaction favor the products?

The textbook has several typos and this is one of them. Dr. Lavelle posted a Solutions Manual Error on his website that lists all of the typos in the textbook. Here's the link: https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... rs_7Ed.pdf

In this question, the equation should be 2HD(g) ⇌ H2(g) + D2(g).
Hope this helps!
