Bronsted vs Lewis

Postby Rohan Deshpande 1L » Tue Dec 10, 2024 4:01 pm

Why is it that effectively the bronsted vs lewis definition of acids and bases are flipped? For example, a lewis acid accepts a pair of electrons, but a bronsted acid donates a proton.

Hey! So it would appear that these definitions are flipped, as a Lewis acid is an acceptor and a Bronsted acid is a donor, but this is because Bronsted acids and bases look at protons being donated and accepted, while Lewis acids and bases are looking at electrons being donated or accepted.
