Percent Ionization vs Percent Protonation

Postby Ishan M 2G » Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:18 pm

Can someone please explain the significance of percent ionization and if it is different than percent protonation?

Percent ionization and percent protonation are the same thing. During lecture, Dr. Lavelle mentioned that percent ionization and percent protonation are synonymous with one another because they both refer to the transferring of protons between molecules.

I think the calculation between percent ionization and protonation would typically be the same, but ionization refers to a weak acid and protonation refers to a weak base.
