Why is HOCl a stronger acid than HOI?

yes, because HOCl is more stable. Mainly because the O–H bond in HOI is stronger than the O–H bond in HOCl. Making HOCl more likely to donate a proton.

HOCl is a stronger acid than HOI because the Cl is far more electronegative than the I in their respective acids. The more electronegative a molecule is, the less electron density around the H, making it easier for the H to be donated to another molecule. The easier a H atom is donated from an acid, the stronger that acid is, so since HOCl is more electronegative, it can lose the H atom easier and is therefore a stronger acid than HOI.

Cl is more electronegative than I. The O-H bond in HOI is stronger than the O-H bond in HOCl. As a result, HOI is a weaker acid.

Cl is more electronegative, making the electron density around the H atom less. Therefore, it can more easily be donated.

HOCl is stronger because Cl is more electronegative, pulling the electrons close towards it. This weakens the O-H bond, making it easier to lose a proton(H+).

Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons and Cl is more electronegative than I. The weaker the bond the more likely it will lose an H+. Also HOCL is more stable.

HOCl's anion is more stable because chlorine is more electronegative and is more stable (via delocalization) than HOI.

Cl bonds have more stability due to higher electronegativity.

Cl is considerably more electronegative than I, so the O-H bond is stronger than the O-I bond. therefore it is a stronger acid.
