How do you know is an acid is strong or weak?

If i were given a random acidic compound, how would i go about determining if it is strong or weak?

I believe there are only 7 strong acids, so it would probably be helpful to just memorize them to eliminate uncertainty. The strong acids are:

HCl: Hydrochloric acid
HNO3: Nitric acid
H2SO4: Sulfuric acid
HBr: Hydrobromic acid
HI: Hydroiodic acid
HClO4: Perchloric acid
HClO3: Chloric acid

Strong acids almost completely dissociate in water whereas weak acids only partially dissociate. There are really only a certain number of strong acids. These are HBr, HCl, HI, HNO3, HClO4, HClO3, H2SO4. Any other acids would be considered weak acids.

Strong acids completely dissociate in water while weak acids do not fully dissociate.

It is most convenient to memorize the list of strong acids since there aren't that many. However, in more conceptual terms, strong acids completely dissociate in water whereas weak acids only partially dissociate. We see the presence of an equilibrium arrow because some of the compound still remains in solution.

I think we just have to memorize the strong ones and realize the rest are considered weak.

The stronger the acid the more it will dissociate in water. The weaker the acid the less it will dissociate in water
