Question J.23 asks to name the acid formed when (a) CO2 and (b) SO3 react with water. Should we know how to name acidic compounds? I don't remember learning this.

You don't have to know how to name acids. However, Dr. Lavelle provided a list of common strong/acids so it would be important to be able to recognize those. The answer to part a is carbonic acid, H2CO3, which is a weak acid so you would most likely not need to know that. However, sulfuric acid, the answer to part b, is a strong acid so it would be helpful to know that it is formed by reacting SO3 with water.

Dr. Lavelle posted a chart to help but I don’t think we need to know how to name them
