Properties of oxoacids?
What are some particular characteristics of oxoacids that are important when creating lewis structures?

Re: Properties of oxoacids?
Oxoacids are usually HAO. When creating lewis structures, it is important to remember that oxygen and hydrogen are bonded together and A is bonded to oxygen. If A has a high electronegativity (EX: Cl), it is delocalizing the electrons and pulling them from the hydrogen bond, making it more polar. This makes it easier for the oxoacid to give up its H+.

Re: Properties of oxoacids?
To add on to the previous answer, oxoacids can also have additional oxygen atoms bonded to the "A" atom. For example, in perchloric acid (HClO4) or chloric acid (HClO3), there are additional oxygens double-bonded to the central chlorine atom. As a side note, these additional oxygens further withdraw electron density away from the hydrogen, making the oxoacid stronger if it contains more oxygen atoms.
Hopefully this helps and please feel free to correct me if there are any mistakes.
