oxides and hydroxides

Postby samanthaywu » Wed Dec 16, 2020 11:07 am

Which metal oxides and metal hydroxides form bases? Do all the group 1 and group 2 elements work? Are there any transition metal bases that we should know?

Yes, all of group one and two form oxides/hydroxides.

The response above talks about group 1 and two. So I will talk about some transitional metals. These also can form hydroxides and oxides as seen in the textbook. This is because they can become a +3 or +4 ion and can bind to oxygen which is -2 or hydroxide which is -1

Straight Answer: Yes, all of the ones that are part of group one and two are able to form oxides/hydroxides.

To answer simply, yes. Both group 1 and group 2 elements will form oxides and hydroxides.

Yes, all group one and two metals can form bases. There are more metals than just these that can form bases however.

Hi! So yes all the group 1 and group 2 metals will form oxides and hydroxides because they lose an electron(s) and the cation of the element will form a oxide or hydroxide with another element or molecule.
