role of bases

Postby Isabelle Huerta 2I » Tue Dec 05, 2023 2:52 am

hi,

can somebody please explain to me the key properties that enable the bases to neutralize acids. what is the difference in ability when the base is organic vs inorganic.

thanks.

Since acids and bases are complete opposites, adding either will decrease the solution becoming more or less basic/acidic.
Adding a base to your acidic solution will make it less acidic and move toward the middle of the pH scale, called "neutralizing the acid".

Organic compounds always have a carbon atom(can donate an electron pair)( and inorganic tend to not have one in them(are those which dissociate into hydroxide.
