Strong Acids and Bases

Postby Darius_Beckley_3C » Sat Dec 09, 2023 3:16 pm

I understand that a longer bond makes a stronger acid, but does that same rule apply for bases?

Hey its is not the case for bases. Base strength is determined by electronegativity, resonance, and atomic size, as these factors contribute to the ability of a molecule to accept a proton.

In the context of acids, a longer and weaker bond typically results in a stronger acid because it's easier to break, allowing the release of a proton. When it comes to bases, the strength of a base is related to its ability to accept a proton.
