Why do bases have a soapy feel?

They react with the acidic molecules in skin (fatty acids), reducing friction between fingers when they are rubbed together.

Bases react with cells in skin, dissolving the fatty acids and oils from your skin; therefore, it decreases the friction between fingers when rubbing together.

When a base reacts with fatty acids and oil from the skin, soap is produced.
