“Soapy” feel of bases

Postby Artin Allahverdian 2H » Sun Dec 02, 2018 11:32 pm

Dr. Lavelle refers to bases as having a “soapy” feel. Why is it exactly that causes bases to feel this way and what is its significance?

Bases feel soapy because they dissolve the fatty acids and oils on your skin. When a base is mixed with the fatty acids, soap is produces. This is significant because its a characteristic of a base.

The soapy feel is associated with the base's ability to dissolve oils and fatty acids on your skin which removes friction, leading to a slippery/soapy feel.

Because they dissolve fatty acids and the oils on your skin, bases give a "soapy-like" feel.

Bases have the unique ability of dissolving acids, therefore when they interact with our oily skin, a slippery feel is produced.

Also, to add on, bases are alkaline and as long they are so, a "soapy" feel of bases will result
