Re: What makes an acid more corrosive?
An acid is more corrosive when the pKa is lower (or Ka is higher) or is a strong acid. Corrosion happens when a lewis acid gains electron pairs from metal atoms. This makes the metal atoms positively charged, in order to counteract that the metal cation will be oxidized with surrounding oxygen and undergo a chemical reaction as it corrodes.

I believe the reason concentration doesn't matter is because when the concentration is very high there won't be enough water to be protonated and participate in the reaction, at a dilute concentration there will be enough water to do so. Also both bases and acids are corrosive, not just acids.
Re: What makes an acid more corrosive?
the more acidic an acid is the more corrosive it will be. It's not based on the concentration of the solution but the pH
Re: What makes an acid more corrosive?
Stronger acids have greater pKAs, which cause them to be more corrosive.

Re: What makes an acid more corrosive?
From what I understand, the lower the pka, the more acidic an acid is, leading to a greater corrosiveness. This is because pka reveals how much an acid will dissociate. The lower the pka, the higher the acid dissociation, leading to higher corrosiveness.

Acids and bases can BOTH be corrosive! when there are higher pKas, they'll be more corrosive. The more H+ that can be released, the more corrosive the acid or base will be.

Re: What makes an acid more corrosive?
The concentration doesn't determine the corrosiveness of an acid. An acid and a base can be corrosive due to their pHs. An acid with a pH of <4 and a base with a pH >10 are both corrosive.
